Making Baked Potato on a BBQ Grill

Outdoor grilling is one of the favorite summertime activities among
families, especially when the weather is good and everyone decides to go on a picnic. Grilled food is not only convenient, it tastes good, too. Nowadays, many dishes can be prepared on the grill. One of them is every household’s favorite: baked potato.

Cooking baked potato on a BBQ grill isn’t complicated as well. The steps are simple, and best of all, you can enjoy the taste of baked potatoes without the aid of an oven. Not only can you serve the potatoes hot on your picnic table, it will also taste a lot fresher.

Preparing your potatoes

As in preparing all kinds of fruits and vegetables, potatoes should be thoroughly cleaned before cooking. This helps in giving your baked potato on a BBQ grill a fresher and cleaner flavor. When the potatoes are thoroughly cleaned, it’s time to wrap them up.

While some people would wrap a number of potatoes in one batch, it would be better if you would wrap them individually to make sure they cook evenly and to prevent the potatoes from becoming dry.

To add moisture to this dish, be sure to add oil or butter to your potatoes before wrapping. One tablespoon of oil would be enough to cover one large potato. Adding oil will add flavor to the dish and will keep your potatoes moist.

You can also add some seasoning to the dish if you want to. Be creative, there are a number of herbs and spices that you can add to make your baked potatoes on a BBQ grill even more flavorful. Basil, dill and rosemary are popular choices. A dash of salt and pepper can also bring out the flavor of the potatoes.

When you’re done seasoning, it’s now time to wrap them with tin foil and get the grill ready.

Cooking your baked potato on a BBQ grill

Grilling your potatoes is quite easy. Just choose any spot on your grill with ample heat and place your potatoes there. It is also wise to keep your potatoes from your other foods on the grill.

Be careful to place them where there is high heat, as this may result in burning. You may also want to turn the potatoes over after a while to make sure that they are evenly cooked.

Although this dish does not require much attention, it would be better to check your potatoes once in while to see if they are being done well.  The usual cooking time for this dish is from 45 minutes to an hour; however, this may vary depending on the size of your potatoes.

You can test if they’re cooked by inserting a fork through the flesh of the potatoes. If the fork goes through smoothly and comes out clean, the potatoes are done and ready to serve. Baked potato on a BBQ grill is truly a healthy and sumptuous affair you can share for your family.
