Mongolian Barbecue is Baked Instead of Grilled?

Mongolian barbecue is another style of cooking which often found in
restaurants. You just have to stir-fry meats and vegetables on a large iron griddle and maintain the temperature as high as 300 degrees Celsius. If you think that this menu is coming from Mongolian, you are totally wrong. As the matter of fact, it was originally coming from Taiwan, and had nothing to do with BBQ at all!

In many ways, it is a misnamed cooking style.

Another great example is rocky mountain oyster which as far from seafood as they are from the blue ocean. There are many other foods that are misnamed. This creates a lot of confusion among customers when they are ordering something that they expect the least.

This confusion happens most of the time when it comes to barbecue, so watch out!

Although BBQ itself refers to grilling most of the time, it can be just another type of barbecue sauce too. The sauce can be smothered on anything you can think of at anytime. It literally can transform any food into BBQ even they are not grilled at all!

New Orleans style barbecue shrimp recipe is a great example. Who believe that the shrimp is baked rather than grilled? This is exactly the case for Mongolian barbecue. Although it is increasingly popular, it has nothing to do with BBQ instead. About the taste? It quite tasty!

Mongolian barbecue was first introduced in Taiwan way back in the end of 1990s. The initial intention was to remind the spirit of Mongolian cuisine through the stir frying style. However, it seems that it resembles traditional Japanese cooking instead.

There are many barbecue restaurants spreading the myth of the Mongolian BBQ that claim the soldiers of the Mongol Empire had prepared the food with their swords and cooked them on their shields, which then overturned and placed over a very large fire.

Most of the restaurants are set up in such a way that allows diners to choose individual Mongolian barbecue ingredients from a large collection of thinly sliced vegetables and meat. For each bowl, the food is stir fried on different griddle section. Whenever the meal is cooked, the diner will claim the bowl back.

The diners can then bring back their ingredients in a bowl or plate to the griddle cook and ask for any sauces seasonings that they prefer.

Mongolian barbecue restaurants are so famous throughout Taiwan. However, you can only found this menu at Chinese buffet restaurants in the United States.

There are also some of the specialized restaurants that prefer Mongolian barbecue than the traditional Chinese menu. In fact, some restaurant chains have started to spread this menu throughout Europe and into the Middle East.
